#31 Hunter pet issues with unique attack speeds and normalization

Status: Awaiting review · Area: Classes & Specs · Hunter

Pets' unique attack speed bonuses vanish when training points are reset, and damage is not normalized by speed, so fast pets are unfairly better.

Current behavior

Currently if you tame a pet with a unique pet speed, it gains a skill like this: This gives a pet an adjusted attack speed from the base 2.0 speed. Different numbers are for different pets, assumed to be similar to different attack speeds from classic WoW. When you unlearn pet training points, it unlearns this attack speed buff. This also brought to our attention that the attack damage is not normalized across various attack speeds. In Classic/Vanilla at the end, all pets had normalized damage regardless of attack speed. So the DPS would be the same, but not the speed.

Expected behavior

Pets are expected to retain any attack speeds upon taming, or not retain any at all and all be 2.0 speed. Retaining is preferred, but then the damage should be normalized if speed is retained after taming. Faster you hit, the less damage you do. Otherwise only fast pets would be desired.

How to reproduce

1. Tame a pet with a unique attack speed. the Rake for example, has Fast Attacks 6.
2. Unlearn pet training points
3. check spell book and pet character panel and notice missing speed
