#16 RTX 3080 DXR incorrectly detected as unsupported in WoW Forever Beta on Windows

Status: Open · Area: Graphics & Art · Lighting & Shadows

The game wrongly thinks an RTX 3080 cannot do ray tracing, so Ray Traced Shadows are locked out even though another WoW client detects it fine.

Current behavior

On native Windows with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 and DirectX 12, WoW Forever Beta incorrectly detects DXR as unsupported. Ray Traced Shadows are disabled in the graphics settings and show: > Unsupported for Graphics Related Reasons The Forever Beta `Logs/gx.log` reports: 9/17 19:43:53.830 [0] GpuInfo: sm:dx_6_0, rt:None, vrs:2, bary:1, mesh:1 pull:1 However, on the same PC, with the same GPU and driver, WoW Classic Anniversary correctly detects DXR 1.1: The other reported GPU capabilities are identical between the two clients. The relevant difference is: This appears to be specific to the Forever client rather than a GPU, driver, or Windows DXR capability issue.

Expected behavior

WoW Forever Beta should detect DXR support on the RTX 3080 in the same way as WoW Classic Anniversary. Expected `gx.log` output: GpuInfo: sm:dx_6_0, rt:DXR 1.1, vrs:2, bary:1, mesh:1 pull:1 Ray Traced Shadows should then be available in the graphics settings.

How to reproduce

1. Use a Windows PC with an RTX 3080.
2. Launch WoW Forever Beta using DirectX 12.
3. Open Graphics settings.
4. Observe that Ray Traced Shadows are unavailable and display "Unsupported for Graphics Related Reasons".
5. Exit the game.
6. Open Logs/gx.log and find the GpuInfo line.
7. Observe that Forever reports "rt:None".
8. Launch WoW Classic Anniversary on the same PC using DirectX 12.
9. Exit the game and inspect its Logs/gx.log.
10. Observe that Anniversary correctly reports "rt:DXR 1.1".
