#158 **Setup** talent from rogue appears to incorrectly assign the Combo Point generated by its proc when the Rogue is being attacked by multiple targets.
Status: Fixed · Area: Classes & Specs · Rogue
When several enemies attack a Rogue, Setup can give its combo point to the wrong enemy and wipe the points built on your main target.
Current behavior
Description The Setup talent appears to incorrectly assign the Combo Point generated by its proc when the Rogue is being attacked by multiple targets. When Setup triggers from dodging an attack or fully resisting a spell from a secondary target, the Combo Point appears to be assigned to that secondary target rather than to the Rogue's current/main target. Because Combo Points are currently tied to the target, this causes the Combo Points that were already accumulated on the main target to be lost. For example: Target A is my current/main target. I have 4 Combo Points on Target A. Target B is also attacking me. Target B attacks and I dodge the attack. Setup triggers and generates a Combo Point. Instead of adding the Combo Point to Target A, the Combo Point is associated with Target B. As a result, the 4 Combo Points previously accumulated on Target A are lost. The issue can also occur when Setup is triggered by fully resisting a spell from a secondary target.
Expected behavior
When Setup triggers, the Combo Point generated by the talent should be added to the Rogue's current target, as stated by the talent tooltip. The Combo Point generated by Setup should not cause the existing Combo Points on the main target to be lost simply because the attack or spell that triggered Setup originated from a different target. In other words, the target that caused Setup to proc should not automatically become the target receiving the Combo Point. Additional Design Suggestion Separately from fixing the Setup bug, it may be worth considering whether Combo Points should be stored on the Rogue rather than being tied to an individual target. This is how Combo Points have worked in later versions of World of Warcraft, and it avoids several edge cases where target-specific Combo Points can be lost or incorrectly reassigned when multiple targets are involved. This is not intended as a statement that target-independent Combo Points are required for Classic-style gameplay, but rather as a possible design consideration for WoW Forever that could prevent issues such as this one. The immediate bug should still be fixable independently: Setup should correctly add its Combo Point to the intended/current target without incorrectly transferring or clearing existing Combo Points.
How to reproduce
Take the Setup talent. Engage two or more enemies. Make Target A your current/main target. Generate several Combo Points on Target A (for example, 4 Combo Points). Have Target B attack you. Dodge an attack from Target B, causing Setup to trigger. Observe the Combo Points on Target A. Repeat the test with a spell from Target B that is fully resisted.
